Subscribing to an internet package, an SMS package and then hunting around for a decent calling rate tariff seems to be the order of the day. But even that is quickly changing. All major carriers in Kenya offer some form of All-In-One package that gives the users a data allocation, an often generous SMS allocation and a number of minutes, both on-net and off-net. We took a look at offers from all three major carriers in Kenya; Telkom Kenya, Airtel Kenya and Safaricom. Let us look at how they all stack up.

Telkom Kenya’s #MzitoBundle

Telkom Kenya is of course the third largest telco in Kenya and lately, they’ve been really pushing their new #MzitoBundle that carries all three packages in one. This table shows how much you get for how much money.

Airtel Kenya’s UnlimiNet packages

Airtel Kenya already has an all-in-one bundle dubbed UnlimiNet. The bundle has been around since 2015 and hasn’t seen much revision since. That said, these are the monthly UnlimiNet bundles you can subscribe to and their rates. All UnlimiNet bundles come with free WhatsApp, Facebook & Twitter up to 100MB per day to be reset at midnight.

Safaricom’s All-In-One Bundles

Safaricom’s All in One bundle offer its users unlimited free WhatsApp for the entirety of the bundle validity period, even after your bundles run out.

Conclusion

As is the case with almost any product that all three telcos push, Telkom Kenya offers the most value for money, followed by Airtel Kenya and Safaricom….well, do they ever play fair? Safaricom is unapologetically positioning itself as a premium brand, so offering its cult of avid users almost half of what underdog Telkom is offering doesn’t seem like it’ll hurt the giant telco’s reputation one bit. If you are not fully dependent on Safaricom’s services like M-PESA, there are compelling offers for monthly bundles by Telkom Kenya and Airtel. But then you might have to check the kind of reception you receive from the other two before making the jump as their coverage has been known to be spotty at best in some areas.
