Back in November, Chipper, the company behind the pan-African money transfer platform. Chipper Cash, partnered with Ajuma Foundation in a bid to provide learning material to learners in Rural schools across Kenya. Months later and the project seems to be concluding well. According to reports from Chipper, the partnership has enabled them to distribute up to 4,000 exercise books to students in 5 community schools in four Kenyan counties – Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Kajiado & Machakos. The Ajuma Exercise Books were designed to do something else beyond addressing the children’s literacy needs. The book covers are designed with characters that embrace and foster ethnic diversity, a very important topic for Kenyan children. The greetings on the back cover also introduce the children to the different languages of the various tribes complete with illustrations of the traditional tribal dress. Speaking about the program, Leon Kiptum Country Director, the Chipper Cash Kenya said that: African startups have slowly but surely made a name for themselves over the past few years and with more and more of them attaining unicorn status, it is a great time to be proud to be African especially in the tech space.
